My day out at Six Flags, Magic Mountain, CA

Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of largest rollercoaster park in the world. It tops in the southern California area among the coaster fans, bringing a lot of young crowd.

It was my birthday & Kartik planned a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain, CA. It was me who was always dying to go to Six Flags because I love all types of scary & adventurous rides, so Kartik planned the same on my Birthday and made it the most memorable day for me.

Even in the morning we were still thinking whether to go or no since Kartik was still little apprehensive on whether will he able to enjoy all the rides or no since he was little bit afraid of heights and had butterflies in stomach.

But finally planned to leave by 9.30am since park was to open at 10.30 & it takes an hour from our place to reach there. But we got late & left at around 10.30 and on top of that LA traffic made us reach at around 12-12.15.

We entered the park, got the map & started planning the rides according to their directions. Our target was to first finish all the “max thrill” rides first. All rides are spread across the park and grouped together and have been given relevant names like the Samurai Summit, Gotham City Backlot, etc.

I have described the rides in detail in different blog posts, since there are many rides and if I add all of them to the same post the post will become too long and boring to read.

Click on the links below to read about the different rides

Tatsu, Ninja and Superman the Escape
Goldrusher, Deja-Vu, Revolution, Viper
Roaring Rapids, The Riddler’s Revenge, Batman The Ride
Scream, Goliath, Dive Devil

Tatsu, Ninja and Superman the Escape

The first ride we did was TATSU located in Samurai Summit area & is rated as “max thrill”. It was an amazing ride & one of my favorites. One drawback was that we had to keep our stuff in the locker (it is mandatory and one has to pay for). One can keep the stuff in for upto approx 2 hrs. So we decided to keep our bags here & finish few more rides. The ride is a Dragon theme coaster with the tag line “Fly at the speed of fear”

Once we were seated with the safety bars locked in, the seats were raised backwards in such a way that we were hanging in air with the support of the safety bars. Once the ride commenced I spread out my hands & got the feeling of ready to fly. When the ride came to an end we were in the same flying position for approx a minute waiting for next ride to start so that we could disembark from the ride. After the ride I truly believed & understood the meaning of the tag line and one needs to experience it to understand. Below are a few pictures and video for the same.

Then we went forward towards NINJA which is also located in the Samurai Summit and is rated as “moderate thrill”. It is known as “The Black Belt of Roller Coasters” as it is suspended swing roller coaster. Here we could not take the pictures of the ride as our bag & camera was kept in a locker at Tatsu.

Further we moved to the SUPERMAN THE ESCAPE which is also again located in Samurai Summit and rated as “moderate thrill”. We didn’t have any idea of how the rides goes know how the ride is & its details. We just followed the directions of Superman Ride & entered into a dark room which is based on Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Here we couldn’t see how the ride goes, since at a time only fifteen people were allowed to go thru the tunnel door. The reason for this seemed to be reflecting the ride’s name i.e. Superman the Escape. The ride speeds from zero to 100 mph in just 7 seconds just before shooting straight up to a height of a 41 storey bldg. Waits for second for everyone to see superman hanging in front of us, and then there is a reverse freefall from the same. The ride is for just 30 seconds, but it was really good, especially the reverse free fall. I enjoyed the ride a lot & asked the ride operator that “can I do it for one more time” she said she would have allowed it if there was no one queue.

Here comes Kartik’s story… as I said before he is afraid of heights & on asking him he said “if I knew how the ride goes, I would have never done that ride”. Here below are the pics & link to the video for the ride.

Goldrusher, Deja-Vu, Revolution, Viper

Moving on the next ride was GOLDRUSHER locate din the movie district & marked as Moderate thrill. It is not a scary ride compared to other rides. Hence we did not like the ride to that extent.

Next came Kartik’s favorite ride DEJA-VU located at the “cyclone bay” and rated as “max thrill”. Like the name even in the ride, things repeat themselves. This ride is functional on days when the park is fully operational. We waited in the line for approx 1hr 20 mins for our chance. This is mainly due to the reason that, unlike other coasters in this one there can only be one trolley since the ride goes both forward & backward on the same track. It is an unique coaster since the trolley comes to a complete stop in a vertical position & pauses there for a few seconds. The ride was fun and it is difficult to explain that in words. The video here below will explain it better.

After Deja-Vu we decided to pick up our bags from the locker at Tatsu, as 2 hr time limit was expiring. After retrieving our belongings we moved on to our next ride REVOLUTION located at Baja Ridge is again a moderate thrill ride. It is one of the oldest coasters in Magic Mountain. It’s a good warm up ride and would recommend as ride it initially before riding any other coasters.

Next is Viper located in Baja Ridge is again a max thrill ride. It has loops, loops & many loops and a very fast ride. It has one of the world tallest loops, with the tallest one measuring a vertical height of 144 feet. As a word of caution, be prepared for your ear & head to bash against the protective harness especially if your height is less than 5ft 6in. It did hurt me also a lot due to my earrings, so make sure to remove your earrings before u sit in this bumpy ride. The entrance to the tide is covered and hence we were not able to get nice pictures, but here is the link some pictures clicked by others.

Roaring Rapids, The Riddler’s Revenge, Batman The Ride

Next for a change we decided to wet ourselves by going for Roaring Rapids which is a mild ride. This is the only ride that is not on any kinds of rails. It is a river raft ride in which the water current determine the speed and direction. Since there are no rail, and the raft is round, in addition flow the raft also rotates when it hits the edges. It’s an amazing especially when in the summer when you beg to get splashed and soaked in that desert heat. Here below is the picture & video of the same.

Moving on we went for The Riddler’s Revenge which is a max thrill ride in the Movie District. Like the riddler in batman, the ride is also of a similar green color. It is the world’s tallest stand-up roller coaster with twists & turns. The stand up mode, gives it a different twist, very much like the riddles of the riddler. According to me it was a very long ride, but we had fun. Below are some pictures and videos.

Next we entered Gotham city backlot, for “Batman The Ride” which is rated as max thrill ride. Entrance to the ride gives the feel of entering Batman’s cave in Gotham city. The ride is suspended from the tracks on the top with feet dangling in air. It’s a nice ride, and enjoyable at the same time. Here are some pics and videos

Scream, Goliath, Dive Devil

Now for the last 2 rides, out of that one is SCREAM which is also a max thrill in Colossus County Fair. It is a unique floorless coaster with flying chair. It has seven 360° inversions & twists turns. There is nothing much to explain as the name says everything. Also here are the links to video & pics

Now comes the last one GOLIATH, which also is in the Colossus County Fair and is rated max thrill. This ride does not have loops like the other max thrill rides, but mainly has high drops and fast turns, and it is considered to be one of the fastest and tallest coasters. Here are the link to the video & picture

Dive Devil
was also a very good adventurous ride, we didn’t do this ride, thought will do it in the end but we missed it as it was too crowded & the park was closing down. The ride is similar to skydiving but without parachute. The pic and video explains it better.
